Tikvat Israel…
A Friendly, Participatory, and Egalitarian Conservative Synagogue in Rockville, MD
At Tikvat Israel we appreciate the great diversity of backgrounds that make up the Jewish community today.

Our congregation includes not only people steeped in Jewish experience and training, but also those just discovering the beauty and richness of Judaism. Some come from traditional religious backgrounds; others grew up in non-observant homes. Some are Jews by choice; others are part of interfaith families.

Together we are united in the common desire to belong to a congregation where community means friendship, where religious practice means spiritual inspiration, and where education for young and old means personal growth and discovery.

Tikvat Israel is a place where you and your family will become enriched through friendship, prayer, and mitzvot.

Remember a Synagogue Pioneer: Dinner Tribute to Charlotte March 18

A community dinner in tribute to the memory of Tikvat Israel pioneer Charlotte Zeidman is set for Sunday, March 18, at the synagogue. Attendees can observe her first yahrzeit with her children at a 4 p.m. mincha service, followed by musical entertainment, personal reminiscences and dinner. A short video interview of Charlotte, conducted by a Rimonim Center student just a few weeks before her death last spring, also will be shown.

Cost of the event is $25 per adult, $15 for any child 10 and younger. You must send in your RSVP to the synagogue office by March 5.

All proceeds from the dinner will be used to dedicate "The Charlotte Zeidman Kitchen" and to make improvements to the facility to better meet the needs of our synagogue. Charlotte was one of the founders of the shul in the early 1960s and played one of the most central volunteer roles during the half-century that followed. She died on March 29 at the age of 79.
