Scouts Pursuing Badges to Descend on TI.........posted Dec 3, 2006
Hundreds of Jewish Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from across the Washington region will descend on Tikvat Israel on Sunday, Jan. 7 for the area's annual Merit Badge and Jewish Religious Awards Fair. The event will run from 2 to 5 p.m. in the social hall.
The National Capital Area Council's Jewish Committee on Scouting has hosted the merit badge fair for several years at TI, which is the chartering organization of its own Boy Scout troop.
In addition to merit badges on a dozen topics, Jewish Scouts also will be working on their religious awards: the Macabee Award for Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts, Grades 1-3; the Aleph Award for Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts, Grades 3-5; the Ner Tamid Award for Boy Scouts and Venturers, Grades 6-9; and the Etz Chaim Award for Boy Scouts and Venturers, Grades 9-12.
Several TI members will be returning to the fair as counselors for particular badges: Steve Raucher, personal management; Chuck Chatlynne, photography; and Jay P. Goldman, journalism.
A full list of participating merit badge counselors is posted on the Jewish Committee on Scouting website: http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/pages/1620 jewish scouting events.cfm
