Breakfast Speaker on Reconnecting Local Jews.........posted Dec 25, 2006

Misha Galperin, executive vice president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, will discuss "Challenges of Connecting Jews to the Jewish Community in Our Times" at 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 21, as part of Congregation Tikvat Israel's Sunday Morning Breakfast and Lecture series.

The event costs $10. Reservations should be placed in advance at 301-762-7338 or execdir@tikvatisrael.org. Breakfast will be served at 9:45 a.m.

Galperin says more than half of Jews in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area are unaffiliated with any temple or synagogue. Jews are spreading out from "Jewish neighborhoods" across the suburbs, are distanced from the Shoah by years and increasing generations, and may be disillusioned with Israel. How then, Galperin asks, do we connect those whose Jewish identity may be waning to the active community?
