The Tikvat Israel Adult Education Committee is pleased to announce that the discussion moderator for the upcoming Israeli Film Festival will be Aviva Kempner.
Ms. Kempner is the scriptwriter, director, and producer of the critically acclaimed, "The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg", a documentary film about the famous Jewish baseball player. The film received awards from the Hamptons International Film Festival, the International Sports Video and Film Awards, the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, and the New York Film Critics, among others. Ms. Kempner was the Founder and past Director of the Washington Jewish Film Festival. A nationally renowned lecturer on cinema, Ms. Kempner also writes about film for publications such as The Boston Globe, Washington Jewish Week, and The Washington Post.
Be sure to join the dynamic discussion of these three outstanding, contemporary Israeli films being presented at the festival (see listings below). All films are in Hebrew with English subtitles. They contain adult themes.

An Israeli mother Dafna struggles to function after her husband dies in an accident. Coping with her own grief and that of her four children, she is faced with economic obstacles that his passing has caused the family. As her relationship with her 17-year-old daughter Maya deteriorates and Maya's twin brother loses touch with reality, Dafna knows she must keep her family together.
Walk on Water - Saturday, February 25, 2006 8:00 P.M.
A hit man Eyal is assigned to track down a former Nazi officer who might still be alive. Pretending to be a tour guide, he befriends the Nazi's grandson, Axel, who is in Israel visiting his sister and trying to convince her to come back to Germany for their father's birthday party. The two men set out on a tour of the country during which Axel's frankness challenges Eyal's rigid values. To finish his mission, Eyal goes to Germany where he has been invited to the family celebration.
Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi - Saturday, March 4, 2006 8:00 P.M.
This coming of age story is about Shlomi, a caretaker of everyone in his family. The problem is that Shlomi is invisible to those he cares for - until a math test at school catches the attention of Shlomi's teacher, who suspects that a unique personality lies behind that dormant façade. Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi is a heartening family comedy, a surprising love story, which focuses on the captivating character of one boy blessed with extraordinary cooking talents, who discovers through the power of love that the sky is the limit.
