Mitzvah Heroes -- Thanks To All!.........posted Feb 10, 2006
Danny Siegel, who has done more than anyone could possibly have conceived in teaching the value of tzedakah, talks about mitzvah heroes, people who go "me-al u'me-ever" - above and beyond - what could be expected of any one individual.
Friends, in the eyes of scores of Nigerian Jews, you are mitzvah heroes. I have lost count of the number of emails that I have received from Nigeria extolling Tikvat Israel for our Africa Project. We may take the performance of acts of chesed (love-and-kindness) for granted, something that our congregation does -- and does well -- as a matter of course; trust me, over there, they do not. They can hardly wait for the arrival of the container that will bring them Jewish Books (including Tanakhim, siddurim and chumashim); matzot; computers; housewares and clothing. Some of the latter items will be used by members of the communities there; others will be sold in the market to provide subsistence for individual and enterprise money for the community.
At 10 pm tonight, on Channel 5 Fox News, there will be a 45 second (or so) segment about OUR congregation and our Africa Project. A cameraman came out here today to record the container being loaded.
Pam's sister already heard me on WTOP. So, the word has gotten out about the Nigerian Jewish Communities
and, just as important, about our wonderful congregation.

To all the participants -- particularly, the members of the Social Action Committee -- YASHER KOACH!
We have a lot to be proud of!
