TI Honors Trio of School Graduates.........posted Jan 30, 2006

Three soon-to-be-graduates of the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School will be honored with aliyot at the Shabbat morning service on Feb. 11.

Marnina Cowan, Noah Mitchel and Joey Nevit will be called to the bimah at TI to mark the completion of their formal secondary school studies before they participate in the school's annual senior year trip abroad. Their school graduation takes place on Feb. 12.

Marnina is the daughter of Bonnie and Elliot Cowan. Noah is the son of Peggy Mitchel. Joey is the son of Shalom Nevet.

As part of the school's curriculum, most of the new graduates will spend 10 days in March touring Poland and the Czech Republic. They will visit former concentration camps and pray in places where Jews once lived. Then they will move on to Israel where they will be based for a couple of months at the Alexander Muss High School in Hod HaSharone.

The first part of the Israel experience consists of touring the nation to visit places studied in school. Following a Pesach break, the students either spend time in a Kibbutz or serve as volunteers with the Israeli army. They will return to the United States before Shavuot.
