In recognition of his religious leadership in Conservative Judaism and klal Yisrael, Rabbi Howard Gorin was awarded an honorary doctorate (Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa) at the Jewish Theological Seminary's convocation honoring members of the Rabbinical Assembly on Nov. 17, 2005, in New York City.

Doctorates were awarded to Gorin and 60 other rabbis from across North America and overseas who have served the Jewish community with distinction for a quarter-century or more. Ismar Schorsch, chancellor of JTS, made the presentations.
