Tzedakah Collections Increase 25% at TI.........posted Jul 9, 2006

Tzedakah collections at Tikvat Israel during the just-completed fiscal year totaled $6,970, a 25 percent higher yield over 2004-05.

In an annual report prepared by David Gantz, chair of the synagogue's tzedekah committee, the biggest sources of funds ($4,654) was recorded at morning and evening minyanim. The other principal sources were Pesach Maot Chitim ($1,677) and Purim canisters ($639).

The biggest gains in contributions were counted in the Puske at TI's morning and evening minyanim. Contributions increased from $3,431.66 to $4,654.

During the past year, Gantz said, the committee used the charitable collections to make gifts to the following causes and organizations: Montgomery County Hunger Relief, Mazon, Project Hope, Jewish Federation Hurricane Katrina Relief, Israel Free Loan Association, Noah''s Wish, Food & Friends, Manna Food Bank, Shepherd''s Table, The African Jewish Community-Hadassah Infant School, Save a Child's Heart, Alyn Hospital Soup Kitchens in Israel (Hazon Yeshya and Meir Panim) and Tzedakah books for TI''s B''nai Mitzvah.

The committee currently has $300 available for allocations.

"The Tzedakah Chavurah has been able to make such allocations because of the hearts of the Tikvat Israel congregants," Gantz said.

Other members are Madeleine Oakley, Dan Jacobs, Hope Kott, Jerry Dunietz, Mike Nash and Robbi Cohen.
