TI Softballers Put Their ’06 Season to Rest.........posted Jun 25, 2006
After earning victories in four of its opening six scheduled games, the Tikvat Israel men's softball team found itself shorthanded on the field and just short in the victory column for the remainder of the season.
TI finished 4-11 in the regular season of the Suburban Maryland synagogue softball league, run by the county recreation department. This left the TI troops in 19th place in the 22-team circuit.
By finishing outside the top 16 teams in the final standings, TI did not qualify for the league's post-season playoffs, although a consolation tournament for the bottom finishers will pit TI against Kehilat Shalom on Sunday morning, June 18, at Nike Missle Park.
In its final regular season games on June 11, TI dropped a pair of nail-biters to Shaare Tefila Blue, 8-6 and 13-12.
In its doubleheader the previous weekend, TI was drubbed by Temple Beth Ami's Red Team, the regular season champion, 22-2 and 20-7. TI's Stuart Lempert and Fred Wagner continued their hot hitting, while Joel Greenblatt played a very solid right field and got several hits over the two games.
The men's league maintains an up-to-date website at http://www.synagogue-softball.org/ with scores, standings and schedules.
