TI Teen Takes 6th in Global Problem-Solving.........posted Jun 3, 2006
A team of seven seniors at Montgomery Blair High School, captained by TI member Abby Goldman, captured sixth place in the global tournament of Destination Imagination, May 24-27, at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The Blair team competed against 48 other high school teams from across the nation in the "Kidz Rulz" category of the creative problem-solving competition. Only the top six teams in each category are recognized publicly at the annual tournament that attracts teams from around the world.
TI member Rebecca Salon serves as the Blair team's manager.
The Blair team advanced to the global event for the fourth consecutive year after having placed first in the Maryland state tournament in April at Towson University. The Blair team was the only Montgomery County team to finish in the top six in any of the five categories of the tournament.
In the "Kidz Rulz" category, competitors create a humorous, eight-minute skit that portrays the reversal of a property of motion. The Blair students created a 20-foot backdrop consisting of popular board games, including Scrabble, Operation, Twister and Candyland, while demonstrating a device with oversized dominoes that reversed a magnetic force.
