Front and Center: Rabbi Graces Magazine Cover.........posted Mar 24, 2006
The spring/summer issue of United Synagogue Review features a cover story about Rabbi Howard Gorin's African adventures.
A two-page article - headlined "Becoming Jewish: How a Nice Jewish Boy Became a Chief Rabbi in Nigeria" - appears inside the magazine with three additional photos. The story, written by the magazine's editor Joanne Palmer, describes the rabbi's educational and spiritual missions to Uganda and Nigeria in 2002 and in the years since.
In the story, Rabbi Gorin describes his role as "teaching would-be Jews about what Judaism really is, helping provide them with the infrastructure that would help them lead Jewish lives and working toward their conversion should that be their goal."
The story also references the rabbi's book collection campaign through the synagogue and his personal website, which he hopes Jews in the United States will access so they can help support African Jewry.
United Synagogue Review is published three times a year by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism in New York. The spring/summer issue was mailed to members of the USCJ during the week of March 20.
