TI Joins Effort to Rescue the Sudan's Darfur.........posted Mar 20, 2006

TI's Religious School and the Social Action Committee have joined together to support the Million Voices for Darfur campaign.

Teen-agers and adults in the congregation are invited to hear Martha Heinemann of an advocacy group known as Save Darfur speak to students in the 7th through 9th grades at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, April 2 in the sanctuary. Heinemann will use a PowerPoint presentation to share some background information, discuss international responses and suggest ways that congregants younger and older can take action about the human atrocities in the Darfur region of the Sudan in northern Africa.

In addition, Tikvat Israel, along with other synagogues in the Washington, D.C., area, is participating in a postcard campaign to President Bush. The goal is to send one million postcards.

On April 30, a mass rally for Darfur will take place in Washington, D.C. Congregants are asked to consider participating in one or both of these efforts.

Postcards are available on the flier table outside of the sanctuary, or you can download postcards from the Web.

The following website is recommended for more information on Darfur: www.MillionVoicesforDarfur.org. The Million Voices for Darfur campaign is a part of the Save Darfur Coalition, which is the organization promoted by the banner that has been displayed prominently at the entrance of TI's driveway.
