TI and Presbyterian Church Join in Holocaust Remembrance.........posted Mar 16, 2006
Tikvat Israel and the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church will again collaborate for a unique Yom Hashoa memorial program on Sunday, April 23 at Tikvat Israel. The event will run from 3-5 p.m.
At 3 p.m., attendees will view the powerful motion picture "Paper Clips,” the true story of a small middle school in Tennessee whose teachers and staff decided to teach the Holocaust as a lesson in prejudice. To do so, they began an amazing project that moved the world.
At 4:30 p.m., the director and producer of the film, Elliot Berlin, will speak as part of a short program involving a few musical numbers by the TI choir and the church choir. A reception will follow.
The Yom Hashoa commemoration, an annual affair involving the two houses of worship, originally was set for April 30. The date was moved up one week to allow congregants and church members to participate in the national rally for Darfur relief, which will take place in Washington, D.C., that afternoon.
