News from the TI Religious School Committee.........posted Mar 4, 2006

Tikvat Israel's Religious School Committee - a group of Religious School parents and our Director of Education - Sandy Levine, have been hard at work. As a result, we have important developments to announce.

Single Sunday Shift Schedule for 2006-2007

The committee addressed the issue of the Religious School's Sunday schedule for next year. A great deal of data collection and thought went into this difficult decision. There were compelling positive and negative attributes/implications. The decision-making process involved development of a list of pros and cons for each option, collecting survey data, and much discussion.

Based on the many factors we considered, the committee recommended (and the Board approved) that we move to a single shift schedule on Sundays for the 2006-2007 school year.

  • Kindergarten - ninth grade classes will be held from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon.
  • Conversational Hebrew will be offered from noon - 1:00 pm.
  • If Rabbi Gorin teaches the tenth grade Confirmation class, he will determine the schedule; otherwise tenth grade will be scheduled from 10:00 AM - 12 Noon.
  • The 11th/12th grade seminar will continue one Sunday per month from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

The committee thanks parents for completing the survey (we had a record-breaking 80% return rate) as this helped us understand parents' opinions on this issue. A summary of the survey results is available in Mrs. Levine's office for anyone interested in this part of the decision-making process.

Earn Free Registration

For our second announcement, how does free registration sound? That's right, you can get free registration for next year (a $75 value).

How can you get the free offer?

By referring a new family to the Tikvat Israel Religious School! When the family registers in the Religious School, your bill will be credited. And you can continue to earn this amount for each additional family you refer that joins our school program. Our quality program and new facility make the school easy to promote. For complete details on how you can earn this reduction, see Sandy Levine or any member of the Religious School Committee.

TI Religious School Moves Towards Earning Recognition

On a related issue, the school is currently undergoing a rigorous external commendation process. This will lead to earning recognition held by few other synagogues in the Washington metropolitan area. An extensive review of our Religious School is being conducted and all appears to be going well. We hope to have word on receiving this special recognition sometime during the summer.

Thank you for your continuing support as we move "from strength to strength."
