USY Cited as a "Chapter of Excellence".........posted May 24, 2006
Tikvat Israel's USY chapter received public recognition for its
marked improvement over the past year, capturing three awards at the
Regional USY Spring Convention May 18-21 at Camp Tall Timbers in
Highview, W.Va.
For the first time in recent memory, the TI USYers won three
awards, including the "Chapter of Exellence" honor. This is a
prestigious award as only five chapters from the 26 chapters in the
Mid-Atlantic Region were recognized with this award, which is given for
all- around excellence in programming in all areas (religious, social
actions, sports, social, educational).
The TI chapter also won an award for Best All Around Kadima
Programming. Starting in January, the USY chapter began inviting all 8th
graders to its programs to introduce them to USY. To say farewell to USY
seniors, the chapter held a dinner followed by Israeli dancing and an
initiation ceremony for the 8th graders.
TI also won an award for Social Action Programming.
The TI chapter was represented at the convention by Jennie
Berger and Rachel May. Ariel Gold, the USY chapter adviser, and TI Youth
Director Lynn Berk served as staff at the event.
"Congratulations to Lynn Berk, Ariel Gold, Rachel Travis and
Dayna Rothstein for this wonderful news! We knew we had a great program
this year -- it is terrific that the region recognizes that, too," said
Lynne Benzion, TI's Youth Commission chair.
