TI's Top Talker Advances in Competition.........posted May 3, 2006
Jeff Smith will be waving the Tikvat Israel banner when he competes against the Washington area's best formal talkers in the district round of the Toastmasters International speech and evaluation competition on May 20 at the Washington Hilton in Silver Spring.
Jeff's competition takes place at 9 a.m.. The awards ceremony is at 9 p.m. There is an all-day conference in between.
Jeff has won the speech evaluation contest in the competition's first three rounds in 2006 against some excellent opponents. The District Evaluation Contest, the final stage, pits him against four other division winners.
At the start, 750 participants were involved in the knockout competition. Approximately 50,000 participated around the globe.
If Jeff should prevail, he will be crowned district champion for the second year in a row, a feat rarely accomplished.
Professionally, Jeff is a financial planner employed by MetLife Resources.
John Melmed chairs the TI Toastmasters Club, which meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month in the Tikvat Israel library. Anyone interested in improving his or her own public speaking skills and enjoys watching outstanding speakers do their thing is encouraged to attend. There is no cost.
