Congregants to Discuss Chilling Film on Global Warming.........posted Sep 18, 2006
The newly formed Tikvat Israel Environmental Task Force will hold a screening of the documentary film, "An Inconvenient Truth," following evening minyan on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the sanctuary. The showing will begin at about 8 p.m., and congregants of high school age and older are welcome.
A topical discussion about the film is scheduled to take place with members of the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 5 at a time and site to be determined.
"An Inconvenient Truth," produced by former presidential contender Al Gore, provides a passionate but chilling look at the impact of global warming on people worldwide. It attracted surprisingly significant turnouts when shown in first-run theaters during the summer.
Gore has launched a fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. The film incorporates one of his lively presentations to a university audience.
The TI showing is part of a nationwide interfaith campaign called the "Spotlight on Global Warming." A San Francisco-based organization, Interfaith Power and Light, has promoted the use of the film for religious organizations nationwide during October. The film engages viewers intellectually and moves them to a place of action.
The Interfaith Power and Light campaign (http://www.theregenerationproject.org/inconvenient.htm) is "a religious response to global warming," and people of faith have a moral obligation to do their best to save the earth.
There is no admission charge to view the film.
Co-chairs of the TI Environmental Task Force are Dan Black and Sharon Kristal. Contact Black at danielmblack@msn.com if interested in joining the task force.
