TI Renews Ties With Presbyterian Church on Holocaust Remembrance.........posted Apr 16, 2008

A long-standing partnership between Tikvat Israel Congregation and the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church will continue this year with a Yom Hashoa program to recall the Holocaust.

This year's program, "In Remembrance of the Holocaust," will take place on Thursday, May 1, 8-9:30 p.m. at Tikvat Israel.

The program includes a remembrance ceremony and the showing of a film, "The Power of Good." The inspiring documentary tells the story of Nicholas Winton, a British citizen who saved over six hundred Jewish children from Czechoslovakia. It includes interviews of those children who as adults finally discover who was responsible for their freedom.

Rabbi Howard Gorin and Cantor Rochelle Helzner coordinate the annual program with clergy at the church. The collaboration dates back to the days when Temple Israel operated just a few blocks from the church on University Boulevard in Silver Spring. Temple Israel and Beth Tikva merged in 1997 to form Tikvat Israel.
