TI Softball Squad Seeks Improved Standing Among Area Shuls.........posted Apr 13, 2009

The Tikvat Israel men's softball team has returned to the playing fields this spring in quest of greater glory in the Montgomery County Synagogue Softball League.

TI opened the season with splits in its doubleheaders against B'nai Israel White and Ohev Shalom. B'nai took the opener against TI, 12-10, while TI bounced back in the second affair, 16-15. During the second week, Tikvat Israel lost a 10-8 opener but won an 8-7 game in the nightcap versus Ohev Shalom.

TI finished 14th in the league standings in 2008, a distinct improvement over the 19th place finish in both 2007 and 2006. Under the coaching genius of congregant Will Hochman, the team hopes to improve on its placement in 2009. Only the top 16 teams among the 24 participating shuls will advance to the post-season synagogue tournament in mid-June.

All TI softball games take place on Sunday mornings through early June. The doublehaders each week start at 9:15 a.m. The TI home field is Wood Middle School on Bauer Drive and cheering by congregants, male and female, youngster and old-timer, is welcome and strongly encouraged.

Complete scores and updated standings can be found on the league's website: www.synagogue-softball.org. Any male 18 or older who is affiliated with Tikvat Israel in any capacity is eligible to join the softball team. Call Hochman at 301-460-7394 for details.
