Tikvat Israel's Tzedakah Fund to Aid 15 Hand-Picked Causes.........posted Aug 9, 2009

Tikvat Israel will divvy up almost $6,000 in contributions from congregants who supported the shul's Tzedakah Fund during the FY 09 fiscal year.

David Gantz, chair of the annual fund, said this year's total Tzedakah collection came to $5,781.09 from the following sources: $4,329.09 from morning and evening minyanim as well as individual donations; $1,134 from Pesach Maot Chitim; and $318 from the Purim Canisters. The total allocation came to $5,609.25, according to Gantz's end-of-year report.

The fund will send allocations to these groups picked by the Tzedakah Fund committee: Montgomery County Hunger Relief, Mazon, Project Hope, Israel Free Loan Association, Manna Food Bank, Shepherds Table, Save a Childs Heart, Alyn Hospital, Solar Cooking Fund - Jewish World Watch, The Good People Fund, Mitzvah Heroes Fund, Stepping Stones Shelter, Smile Train, Inwell Study Center and the Washington Area Fuel Fund.

We are ready to begin again as 5770 approaches, Gantz said. The Tzedakah Chavurah has been able to make such allocations because of the hearts of the Tikvat Israel congregants.

Besides Gantz, the committee consists of TI members Madeleine Oakley, Dan Jacobs, Hope Kott, Mike Nash, Robbi Cohen and Elyse Bernstein.
