Help Others Celebrate Pesach Through Project Hope.........posted Mar 16, 2009

Pesach is just around the corner. Many in our area need help in preparing for Pesach and if you can donate a few hours of your time on a Sunday, April 5 then you can do a mitzvah for those in need. (If you cannot donate your time, there is another way to help.)

Project Hope is a program coordinated by B'Nai Brith and other local organizations (including JSSA). It is a Pesach program for needy residents in the metropolitan area. There are two ways for you to get involved.

First way:

Volunteer your time on Sunday April 5 (spring break, TI religious school is closed): Responsibilities include: pick up bags of Pesach food (pre-assembled) at the Hebrew Academy (located in Aspen Hill) or at Tikvat Israel, and deliver bags to recipients. In the past, TI volunteers have typically delivered 4-6 bags of food per person/family. This is all done during the day on Sunday, April 5th.

Families and children are welcome to participate together. This is an ideal introduction to Tikkun Olam for small children. The recipients are often elderly, and they enjoy meeting young children. The children also have a "hands on" introduction to giving to others. It does involve some walking, lifting (one bag of groceries per recipient) possibly some stair climbing for those recipients who live in low rise apartment buildings, and drivers to transport the Pesach bags..

The second way:

If you are unable to volunteer on Sunday, April 5 but want to make a contribution you can write a check to support this effort. To make a donation to support this project make your check out to

B'nai B'rith Project H..O.P.E. and mail to:

B'nai B'rith Project H.O.P.E.

I will be coordinating volunteers from Tikvat Israel. If you want ot volunteer please contact me no later than Friday 3/27.
