Softball Team Wants to Reverse Slide in Last Weeks of Synagogue League.........posted May 24, 2009
After snaring a couple of victories during the first two weekends of play, the Tikvat Israel men's softball team has been on a downward slide, losing three consecutive doubleheaders this spring in the Montgomery County Synagogue Softball League.
With a 2-8 won-loss record, the TI squad hopes to reverse course during the final three weeks of the regular season, but the road won't be easy.
After opening the season with splits in its doubleheaders against B'nai Israel White and Ohev Shalom, Tikvat Israel has lost two games to each of the following shuls over the past four weekends: Washington Hebrew, Kehilat Shalom and B'nair Shalom Blue.
TI's remaining doubleheaders are slated against Oseh Shalom Blue, Temple Emanuel and Beth El Grey. All doubleheaders start at 9:15 a.m. home field locations and current results are posted on the league's website: www.synagogue-softball.org.
TI will need to win at least a couple of those twinbills to improve on last year's 14th place finish in the league standings. TI finished 19th in both 2007 and 2006. The synagogue league this year has 24 shuls.
Congregant Will Hochman, who coaches the TI team, was unavailable for comment on his team's showing. Hochman welcomes newcomers to the team's roster as any male 18 or older who is affiliated with Tikvat Israel is eligible to play. Call the coach at 301-460-7394 for details on getting into one of the remaining games.
