Brandeis Senior Marnina Cowan Creates Cross-Cultural Show for World Viewing.........posted Feb 22, 2010

Three Montgomery County students at Brandeis University, led by a member of Tikvat Israel, will be part of a unique cross-cultural performance in early March involving both Jews and Palestinians.

The creator of the show is Brandeis senior Marnina Cowan, daughter of TI members Elliot and Bonnie Cowan of Rockville. Marnina is a dual major in International and Global studies and Hebrew language and literature. She graduated from the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.

The other local students involved in the show are Jennie Berger, also a TI member and daughter of Warren and Arlene Berger, and Naomi Kling.

The show Marnina created is called "A Coming Together ... Musika Rox" ("music" in Hebrew and "dance" in Arabic). The show will be able to be viewed live from anywhere in the world through the Brandeis website (www.brandeis.edu) as it will be streamed. Tikvat Israel hopes to host a video showing of the performance, with live commentary by Marnina, after the school year ends at Brandeis.

Musika Rox will focus on the possibilities of Israeli and Palestinian peace through a cultural model. It will feature guest performances by Spoken Word poetry, Ibrahim Miari of the Acco Theater Company and Adagio Dance Ensemble.

The show is sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel to New England, the Israel Campus Roundtable, the International Center for Ethics, Justice and Public Life at Brandeis, the Brandeis Pluralism Alliance, The Harpf and Kahn Peace Award, The Hiatt Career Center and the Brandeis Office of Global Affairs.
