Volunteer Crew Spruces Up Synagogue's Exterior on a Sizzling Day.........posted Jul 18, 2010
Tikvat Israel's annual Beautification Day in early June managed to land on another sizzling day, but the weather conditions did not hamper the hard work of a contingent of volunteers.
The work crew, organized by cleanup chair Alan Apter, painted the louvered slats on the roof (the side facing the front of the synagogue), exterior walls and some of the front railings. Necessary weeding was done, along with pulling out stumps near the Sukkah and putting down ground cover and rocks to keep that area in check.
"We finished up just in the nick of time before the thunderstorm hit!" Apter reported.
He provided the following list of individuals who helped out on Sunday, June 6: Stuart Berlin, Brenda and Keith Brooks, Barry Lipsy, Rod and Ilana Matheson, Mimi and Rachel Meltzer, Amy, Sam and Becca Matathias, Cindy and Emma Renteria, Jonathan Solomon and Alan, Susan and Ross Apter.
On May 23, the original date of Beautification Day before it was postponed by inclement weather, Harold Diamond and Art Fabel reported early for duty and handled some preliminary grounds keeping.
Apter said he hopes to finish the painting of the regular shul entrance railings in time for the High Holidays and could use the assistance of a small group of volunteers. Contact him at alaniapter@gmail.com.
