Women’s Network Zoom Program Featured Shirley Waxman

On Sunday May 17, 2020 the Women’s Network hosted a Zoom Program presented by Tikvat Israel’s own renowned fiber artist Shirley Waxman. Seventeen women logged onto their computers to hear about how Shirley started a cottage industry in Israel for newly resettled Ethiopian Jews.  In 1992 Shirley was asked to teach these women how to embroider atarot, kippot, and other Jewish wearable art which were sold in the US to help support their families.  Shirley showed the group examples of the embroidery style. The group learned from Shirley that this artistic design is a lost style, not as popular today as in the early 90’s.
