Why Do We Pray?

Ever wonder:

  • Why we recite the prayers we say at Shabbat services and daily minyan?siddur sim shalom
  • Who we are talking to?
  • Why our discussion is mainly in Hebrew and Aramaic?
  • What other people see in prayer – from fellow members of TI to Judaism’s greatest thinkers?
  • Why we come to synagogue to pray together?

Rabbi Shull will explore the topic of prayer over four Shabbaot this spring. Before each Shabbat morning service Rabbi Shull will provide us with Jewish sources on a key theme of the prayer experience. We invite you to consider this material during the service and use it to help understand what you are saying, reading and seeing around you. Our services on these weeks will feature a discussion instead of a D’var Torah.

Join us for an exploration of prayer in the Jewish tradition, and how we can related to that tradition today.
