Roz and Ted Kram and the minyan subcommittee of the Religious Practices Committee sponsored a Pasta Extravaganza March 27 at Tikvat Israel to honor congregants who regularly attend minyan. More than 100 congregants gathered to enjoy three different pasta dishes, garlic bread, salad, fruit and dessert at tables covered by red-and-white checked tablecloths. The minyan subcommittee members involved in planning and running the dinner were Ted Kram, Warren Berger, Ellen Eisner, Genie Glucksman and Mimi Meltzer.
After dinner Rabbi Benjamin Shull, Berger and Roz Kram all spoke words of appreciation. In addition to thanking the congregants for their attendance, Rabbi Shull noted that the prayer for healing was recently added to the service and that being able to come to the synagogue to pray in a minyan can help heal a broken heart.
Berger thanked the committee for “maintaining the minyan lists … [and] making or planning ways to make minyanim better in terms of education, enjoyment and inspiration.” He had the captains and callers stand to be acknowledged by the attendees, and then recognized each group of minyan regulars by having them stand as he called out the days of minyanim. Lastly he asked those that are regulars at Kabbalat Shabbat to rise and be acknowledged. As one minyan captain noted, “This was a great way to let people know they make a difference.”
