It was so wonderful to see everyone back here this week after our Passover break. There are only a few more weeks left of classes until summer vacation. Please be sure to mark May 22nd on your calendars. It is our last day of school and we would love all students and their families to join us on that day.
Jerusalem (K/1) – Today we talked about the Counting of the Omer (Hebrew: Sefirat HaOmer, sometimes abbreviated as Sefira or the Omer) is an important verbal counting of each of the forty-nine days between the Jewish holidays of Passover and Shavuot. The parashat ha’shavuah, Aharei Mot, talks about the sepcial sercivices we participate in during Yom Kippur. God told Aaron all the things the Cohanim needed to do to help the Jewish people ask for forgiveness. Today we also learned the letter Mem. Words that start with the letter Mem are Mathah and Mezuzah.
Haifa (2/3) – Today in class we learned about the counting of the Omer, created Omer calendars, and practiced the bracha we say each night of the Omer. The class learned that the Omer is the 49 days from Passover to Shavuot. We start counted the evening of the second Seder. Each night, a bracha is said before the day is counted. After the class finished their Omer calendars, they went through the bracha, practiced saying the words, and circled any letters they did not recognize. We then practiced saying the bracha together as a class.
