Twenty-five Women’s Network members met for a “get to know the women of TI” event hosted by long-time member Janice Balin on Sunday, Oct. 30, at her home in Rockville. In addition to sharing a delicious lunch together, the participants broke into small groups for an ice-breaker game designed to help members get to know each other better by describing unique talents or experiences. Here’s just a small sampling of the experiences and talents shared by participants:

  • Took a trapeze class
  • Isolated some of the first HIV virus from Africa and Thailand
  • Went to Gladiator school in Rome
  • Snorkeled in the great barrier reef off the NE coast of Australia
  • Catered lunch for 800
  • Served as a tour guide in England

In addition to receiving updates from the TI chapter’s own leadership on upcoming Sisterhood activities, the group heard from some of the Seaboard Women’s League regional leaders who also attended. Julia Loeb, Seaboard region president, spoke of the importance of Sisterhood, making connections, and the 100-year celebration in July. Ellen Kaner Bresnick, Seaboard region vice president, spoke about Bookmarks (a semi-annual publication of Women’s League), the important literature by Jewish women in the past century, and the Women’s League Reads Online Book Group.

The next Sisterhood event is the Book Group that will be held on Dec. 14 when “A Free Life” by Ha Jin will be discussed.
