A Time to Sing

What an amazing concert we all enjoyed on May 18th!  A truly uplifty celebration of our beloved Cantor Rochelle Helzner!

Cantor Helzner has inspired us with her voice, enriched our Jewish lives with her warmth and grace on Shabbat and holidays, and has been a source of strength during our sorrows and simchas. As she transitions to Cantor Emeritus status this summer, we will miss her greatly.

The concert featuree Joey Weisenberg and the Rising Song Ensemble. Weisenberg, founder of Hadar’s Rising Song Institute, is known for his original niggunim, wordless melodies drawn from ancient traditions and the American soundscape. His masterclasses and singing circles regularly sell out.

Joey was joined onstage by Rabbi Yosef Goldman, Shawn Hennessey, Dan Blacksberg and Yoni Avi Battat. It was a night of  power of communal singing, spontaneous harmonies, and spirituality that sometimes asks that we leave the words behind and allow the music to transport us!

This version of Halleluyah was on our lips as we left the venue.  Cantor Helzner and Joey Weisenberg sang it in duet form twice (once as an encore), and the space reverberated with the audience joining in joyous harmony!
