In the final game of the regular season, Tikvat israel beat Oseh Shalom, 60-58, on Sunday, March 2, in the Montgomery County Synagogue Basketball League.
In a matchup of two teams that entered without a win in 2014, TI took the victory and advanced to the post-season playoffs against the top team.
TI’s high scorers were Leor Newman, Brandon Ehrlich and Ken Turner.
The Tikvat Israel team (which includes a few players who belong to Temple Emanuel) had dropped dropped its first seven games. Members of the team are Ken Turner, Mark Bargeski, Mike Micek, Leor Newman, Damon Ehrlich, Neil Kram, Brandon Ehrlich, Warren Berger, Jeff Kahn, Aaron Zajic and Michael Newman. Berger also is the coach.
The season runs from January until mid-March, and TI’s court foes in the nine-team circuit included B’nai Shalom of Olney, Beth El, Beth Shalom, Young Israel Shomrai Emunah, Shaare Tefila, Oseh Shalom and Temple Isaiah.
