Tikvat Israel’s total tzedakah collection came to $3,449.89 during the ’14 fiscal year.
According to an annual report prepared by David Gantz, chair of the Tzedakah Havurah, the contributions from the following sources: $2,837.89 from morning and evening minyanim as well as individual donations and $612 from Purim canisters.
The havurah allocated $3,568, leaving $187.77 in the account to begin the 2014-15 tzedakah year.
This year’s allocations supported Mazon, Project Hope, Israel Free Loan Association, Washington Free Loan Association, Manna Food Bank, Shepherd’s Table, Save a Child’s Heart, Smile Train, Alyn Hospital in Israel, American Jewish World Service, Stepping Stones Shelter, Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse, the Polaris Project (combating human trafficking), the Washington Area Fuel Fund and the support of education of Abayudaya Jews.
“The Tzedakah Havurah has been able to make such allocations because of the everyday generosity of the Tikvat Israel congregants,” Gantz said.
The group consists of Hope Kott, Dan Jacobs, Robbi Cohen and Elyse Bernstein, in addition to Gantz.
