A Time to Sing

Join us in celebrating Cantor Rochelle Helzner’s 41 years of dedication to Tikvat Israel at our annual cantor’s concert, A Time to Sing, on May 18, 7 p.m. at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville, Md.

Cantor Helzner has inspired us with her voice, enriched our Jewish lives with her warmth and grace on Shabbat and holidays, and has been a source of strength during our sorrows and simchas. As she transitions to Cantor Emeritus status this summer, we will miss her greatly.

The concert will feature Joey Weisenberg and the Rising Song Ensemble. Weisenberg, founder of Hadar’s Rising Song Institute, is known for his original niggunim, wordless melodies drawn from ancient traditions and the American soundscape. His masterclasses and singing circles regularly sell out.

At our May 18 concert, Weisenberg will be joined onstage by Rabbi Yosef Goldman, Shawn Hennessey, Dan Blacksberg and Yoni Avi Battat. Come for the power of communal singing, spontaneous harmonies, and spirituality that sometimes asks that we leave the words behind and allow the music to transport us!

Tickets are on sale, and going fast – order here. For more information on the venue, click here.

Here’s a sample of Joey’s musical style.  We will share different samples so check back! Enjoy Lishmoah, from Joey’s new album – Selah, just released this March!!
