Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-District 8) will hold a one-hour town hall meeting at Tikvat Israel Congregation in Rockville at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 8. The event is open to the public.
Maryland Delegate Anne Kaiser, a member of the synagogue who represents State District 14, will introduce the congressman.
Raskin will give brief remarks, then take audience questions.
Raskin represents Maryland’s 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a senior whip for the Democratic Caucus, the vice-ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee and the freshman representative to the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. He also serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the Committee on House Administration.
He has been a constitutional law professor at American University’s Washington College of Law for 25 years. He is the founding director of the college’s Program on Law and Government and co-founded the acclaimed Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project. He is the author of Overruling Democracy: the Supreme Court versus the American People and We the Students: Supreme Court Cases for and About Students.
Raskin and his wife Sarah are members of Temple Sinai and have three college-age children.
