Congregants Marcelle and Robert Copaken have established a fund in memory of their son Jeremy through the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation.

The fund will support the annual Jeremy Copaken Memorial Kindness Award at Rockville High School. On the foundation’s website, donors can use the comment section to stipulate that the funds be directed to the Jeremy Copaken award.

Jeremy, a member of the Class of 1994 at Rockville HS, died unexpectedly on Dec. 6, 2014, at the age of 39.

Marcelle and Robert Copaken are long-time members of Tikvat Israel, and Jeremy had his Bar Mitzvah at the synagogue.

The “Kindness Award” was presented to a Rockville High School graduating senior this year in May. She was chosen by a committee of teachers and counselors for her numerous acts of kindness. She will be attending Cornell University.

Anyone wishing to donate to this fund can do so at www.mcpsfoundation.org.  Contributions designating the Jeremy Copaken award can be mailed to the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation, 850 Hungerford Drive, Room 149, Rockville, Md. 20850.
