The next FOCUS folk music concert at Tikvat Israel is Sunday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. (after 7:00 minyan, one-half hour earlier than usual). This concert will feature Chuck Brodsky, a storyteller, songwriter, troubadour and modern day bard.
With only his acoustic guitar and his voice, he’ll draw you in with genuine, down-to-earth warmth and his quirky, finely crafted songs. Using wit and irony, set to haunting melodies, he tells the stories of oddball and underdog characters through his syncopated guitar strumming or sweet fingerpicking. His songs celebrate the goodness in people — the eccentric, holy, profound, courageous, inspiring and beautiful. They poke fun at what needs to be poked fun at, and sometimes they challenge.
Brodsky has performed three times at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and 20 of his celebrated baseball story songs have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame’s sound-recording library.
The FOCUS event will be staged in the Flax Library; light refreshments will be available for purchase before the show. Advance tickets are available through FOCUS’s website. FOCUS member pricing for tickets purchased at the door will be extended to Tikvat Israel members.
FOCUS is a non-profit organization whose mission “is to bring folk and acoustic music to a growing audience through performance, education and participation in the musical folk art.” Tikvat Israel and FOCUS have agreed to a partnership to bring folk music concerts to Tikvat Israel and the Montgomery County community.
