About 15 participants in the Florence Melton School of Jewish Learning gathered for a siyum (defined below) to mark the completion of year 1 of the Melton program at Tikvat Israel on Tuesday night, June 6.
Participants were asked to choose their favorite Melton text, present it to the class and explain the reason for their choice.
A siyum, the completion of any unit of Torah, or book of the Mishnah or Talmud, is usually followed by a celebratory meal. For the Melton siyum, classmates celebrated with tasty snacks.
Year 2 of Melton, focusing on history and ethics in Judaism, will be taught by Rabbi Ben Shull of TI and Rabbi Uri Topolosky of Beth Joshua Congregation.
