Public Speaking Workshop Set for Future B’nai Mitzvah

Parents of children who expect to have a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah in 2015 or 2016 may want to sign up their youngsters for a six-session public speaking workshop offered by Tikvat Israel’s Toastmasters club, also known as Hopeful Talkers.

The workshop is designed to help these children feel more comfortable and less afraid about speaking in front of the congregation on their big day. The most important part of this educational opportunity will be to help them prepare and deliver a better d’var Torah.

Workshop leaders believe the course will improve all participants’ communication ability in other important aspects of their lives, including school, social experiences and careers.

The course will meet on six consecutive Sundays, from 10 to 11.30 a.m., in the synagogue sanctuary. Meeting dates are Jan. 11, 18 and 25 and Feb. 1, 8 and 15. Snow dates are Feb. 22 and March 1.

The principal organizers are TI congregants John Melmed and David Kaminow. Contact Melmed in advance of the first session to sign up your child.
