Rabbi Gorin Accepts New Post at Long Island Synagogue

Two years after completing a 32-year tenure as the spiritual leader at Tikvat Israel Congregation, Rabbi Howard D. Gorin is returning to the pulpit.

The congregation of Temple Beth-El, based in North Bellmore, N.Y., hired Rabbi Gorin on June 27 to serve as the Conservative shul’s full-time rabbi. Temple Beth-El is located along the South Shore of Long Island. It opened in 1951.

Rabbi Gorin is expected to begin his new post in mid-August.

He left Tikvat Israel for retirement on June 30, 2012. His wife Pam has resigned her post as director of early childhood education at Shaare Torah in Gaithersburg.

Since his retirement, Rabbi Gorin had run a used Jewish book business, Selah Books International, using rented space at TI. The business’s goal was to find new homes for books held precious by their previous owners.
