Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-8th) faced a friendly audience inside a full Tikvat Israel sanctuary on May 8. During his hour-long town hall, Raskin talked about the essential role played by the U.S. Constitution in today’s political environment of considerable upheaval. He also fielded an array of questions, many of them dealing with last week’s action by the House of Representatives to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. He promised that he or his staff would respond to the several dozen other questions submitted on postcards by audience members.
Prior to the presentation, Rabbi Ben Shull gave the congressman a framed photograph from his recent trip with congregants to civil rights sites in the South. Raskin’s appearance was arranged by the synagogue’s Adult Education Committee.
Raskin’s town hall was also covered in the Washington Jewish Week.
