Members of the Tikvat Israel Women’s Network paid an artsy visit to the Jewish Community Center’s Goldman Art Gallery in Rockville on Sunday, March 24.
Eleven women gathered for a docent-led tour of the “Freedom, Justice and Equality: An Interfaith Perspective” exhibit. TI’s own Shirley Waxman, along with Sabir Rahman of the exhibit staff, discussed the origin and nature of the artwork, created by local Jewish and Muslim artists.
Three Tikvat Israel members have works on display in the exhibit, including Waxman, who coordinated the Women’s Network visit with Brenda Brooks.
“Everyone really appreciated the efforts of the artists and the explanations presented about the works,” said Janice Balin of the Women’s Network. “They left the exhibit with a newfound knowledge about Islam, the religion of the Muslim faith, and the many similarities it has to the Jewish religion.”
