In the September 22, 2015, issue of Washington Jewish Week, feature writer Suzanne Pollak describes the Zichronot service at Tikvat Israel on the second day of Rosh Hashanah. The article explains why Post-It notes dotted the ark and cantor’s lectern.
Congregant Susan Urban describes this symbolic activity that Rabbi Benjamin Shull introduced at our synagogue’s services. The rabbi said the activity evokes the practice of visitors to the Western Wall in Jerusalem stuffing small notes (kvitlachim) in the cracks between the wall’s stones. Read Susan’s account of the Zichronot service.
